    HDD clone software

Any software recommendations for cloning a SATA-I drive on mobo with Windows 7 installed to SATA-II drive on PCI controller card? I may need to do this for someone.

Is Acronis Disk Director Suite "copy partition" function able to do this upon a reboot when windows is not yet loaded? It seems like it will to me.

buy a new seagate/maxtor drive and use the free cloning software from the support website

    for Seagate:

    DiscWizard | Seagate

    for maxtor:

    MaxBlast 5 | Seagate

I have used copy commander to clone my harddrive and it works fine so far. Have been using the cloned drive for 2 days now with no major issues.

another trick with the seagate software.
if you have a different drive to clone from/to, all you have to do when ready to clone is hold down alt / T / O that is the technical override.
I was told this from a seagate support rep and it works!

my org HDD in my gateway laptop is a WD

Acronis TIH has an excellent disk clone function which can be found in the "disk utilities" section of the app. I've been using this for years with great ease and success.

Yes paid (and well worth it, imo, especially for the 2010 version), but I believe they have a full featured time limited trial version available, or if you have a Seagate drive on your system, you can download their old OEM version of Acronis, I think it's called "disk wizard" or something like that (not really sure).

In addition to making cloning easy, the app now has tons and tons of highly configurable backup/recovery features/options. For me, it's the best product of this type.
