File problem in WLM I have loaded my F: drive (data backup) with music files from the C: drive and deleted them form there but I now have the same music tracks doubled up and even tripled up ie track 1/2 /3 /4 etc is listed twice or three times.
Now short of working tediously through the listings and deleting the "extras" one by one I wondered know if there is a way of deleting the "extras" en mass? Have Googled this problem but no answers.
Plus can someone tell me what I did wrong please in the first place? | My System Specs |

Not sure here but a suggestion, assuming duplicate files have name appended (1) (2) as windows auto does could you do a file search with wildcard ie *(1).mp3 to reveal all files with No 1 appended to end of file name then repeat with No 2.
May help i dont know just thought i put it out there | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Pauly Special OS Win7 Ultimate X64 CPU Intel i7 920 Motherboard Gigabyte EX58-UD4P Memory 6GB OCZ DDR3 1600 Sound Card Onboard Realtek Monitor(s) Displays Sony SDM-E96D Screen Resolution 1280x1024 Keyboard MS Wireless Mouse MS Wireless PSU 800W Arctic Case Antec Cooling 3x120mm Fans Hard Drives 80GB Vortex SSD (OS)

Have you checked the actual location of the files, as in where replicated file 1, 2 & 3 actually are. Is it possible you just have original and copied files still in view. Have you moved user directories, just wondering if when moving you have ended up with files in one user area and also somewhere else like public folders/libraries
What i meant before is doing a search from the start menu by searching for wildcard * which can be any character(s) followed by the 1 or 2 that windows automatically appends to duplicate filenames, but on reflection windows would only append the file name if it was located in the same folder as the original file | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Pauly Special OS Win7 Ultimate X64 CPU Intel i7 920 Motherboard Gigabyte EX58-UD4P Memory 6GB OCZ DDR3 1600 Sound Card Onboard Realtek Monitor(s) Displays Sony SDM-E96D Screen Resolution 1280x1024 Keyboard MS Wireless Mouse MS Wireless PSU 800W Arctic Case Antec Cooling 3x120mm Fans Hard Drives 80GB Vortex SSD (OS)

Ok Wolfgang that option tells me it will empty the library and close the WLM and Pauly the music is located on both my C: drive where it originally was and I copied it to the F: spinner (then deleted it) to give me a bit more space on the SSD (C so would I be right in assuming the machine is picking up both drives as a library source because the files did not delete?? | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Own build (new) Desk1 / Toshiba L550 / Desk2 1st build OS Desk1 7 Home Prem / Desk2 7 Home Prem / Laptop 7 Pro all 64bit CPU Desk1 i5 3750K / Laptop i5 430m / Desk2 i5 2500 Motherboard Desk1 Asus P877-V / Desk2 Gigabyte H67 UD3H / Laptop ? Get the files off C, then you should not have a duplicate problem. If the music file on F is included in the library, it should pick it up there. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP, Dell, Gateway, Toshiba - 4 laptops and 2 desktops OS Vista, Windows7, Mint Mate, Zorin, Windows 8 CPU from 1.6GHz Duo to i7 Monitor(s) Displays 2x HP w2207 Keyboard with trackball - no mices Mouse Trackball mice Hard Drives 5x HDD, 7x SSD, 12x Externals Internet Speed DSL 6000 |
