    WinZip 16.5 Installer error 1722

First post from a New Windows 7 user. :)

Mod: Please move this post if this is in the wrong area.

This was a clean install of Windows 7.

    EventData:
Product: WinZip 16.5 -- Error 1722. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. Action DoInstall, location: C:\Program Files (x86)\WinZip\WINZIP64.EXE, command: /nodesktop /nostartmenu /nomenugroup /autoinstall /lang 1033

Winzip did install ok at first, but then another program failed to install and I did a system restore.

This stopped WinZip from working, and when I did an uninstall and reinstall of Winzip, I got the above error.

Not a show stopper, as I can use Universal Extractor instead, but I`d like to know what the problem is if possible.

    Thanks.

Welcome to Seven Forums Lakes. Error 1722 is the generic installer error. Since you don't say you have issues installing anything else, and you had successfully installed WinZip previously, we'll assume the installer service is OK. I would Make sure there are no leftovers of WinZip in the C:\Program Files (x86)\WinZip folder. Also delete Windows temp files. If you have CCleaner, I'd run both the cleaner, and the registry cleaner. Chances are there are either leftovers from the install, or leftovers from the extracting of the installer. If you want, download Everything:

    Everything Search Engine

And do a search for WinZip. Everything will find any traces left on your system.

Now try the installer again. A Guy

Deleted Winzip folder in Program files.
    Deleted all System Temp Files.
    Run CCleaner Reg Scan
Installed another program to check installer service, ok.

    Run WinZip 16.5-64 Install.
    Unchecked all toolbars install options.
Uncheck Kaspersky Security Scan Install (Already installed Avast)
Select Custom install, Uncheck"Include Winzip Gadget on the desktop".
    Select Legacy compression option.
Selected "No thanks, just install Winzip"
    Select Classic Theme Option.

Installer runs, still gives Error 1722.

    Thanks for your Help.

Did you right click installer and Run as administrator? You might try to install in safe mode

    Safe Mode

If it requires the windows installer service, you can d/l SafeMSI to start the installer in safe mode

JSI Tip 9233. SafeMSI.exe freeware starts Windows Installer in Safe Mode.

It does work in Windows 7.

Damn!, I spoke too soon, although it installed ok, the app crashes now.

I`m giving up on this one, I`ll try 7-zip instead.

Never used WinZip. I use WinRar mostly, and yes, 7-Zip. I believe from anecdotal evidence, 7-Zip is superior to WinZip? A Guy
