Windows 7: How can I make Internet Download Manager only take in streaming media?

I see that there have been several posts about IDM, but none of them have answers for what I'm looking to do. There is no issue with IDM, just an annoyance that I'm hoping someone can help me fix.

IDM is great, I use it all the time. But I don't want it to handle all of my downloads. Sometimes, it doesn't work properly with certain sites (the ones that make you wait a certain amount of time before you can download the file), and it's during those times that I really hate IDM.

What I want changed is for IDM to only intercept streaming files, not files I could otherwise download anyway (like programs, etc). Is there a way to make IDM only take in streaming files?

See how to temporarily disable it I need to temporary disable IDM to download some file with my browser. How can I do this?

I don't want it to be temporary though. I really just want my browser's native download service to handle everything else except for streaming media, which I want IDM to take care of.

What happens if you disable it, as in the link above, and enable it only when you're streaming meda?

I'm mostly looking for convenience. It's inconvenient to have the program running all the time when it's disabled, then enable and probably restart my browser when I find media that I do want to download. At this rate, I'd rather just have it act the way it does now.
