HTML trouble. How I can I post links to other sites from my own?

I have no idea how to use HTML and I am in desperate need of knowing how I can get links that i post on my sit to other sites to actually work.I am using the <a href="http://url/"name i pick</a>.That is the only one i know.Is there a way to just put in one hTML code for the whole page so that i won't have to enter it individually every single time? Thanks

Firstly, you have made a typo
<a href="http://url/">name i pick</a>

Secondly, that is not really clear what are you trying to achieve.
What is your goal? How are you editing your website? Are you using any software? Is there content management system/ blogging platform or static HTML pages?
