Mandatory Upgrade of Messenger to Skype

I am using Windows 7 Home Premium with Internet Explorer 8 and Windows Live Mail.

I got a message that I must upgrade Messenger to Skype by April 8 or they will do it automatically.

I never use Messenger, just Windows Live Mail to get my emails.

(I know I should upgrade IE 8 to 9 or 10, but IE 8 seems to work.)

Is this going to mess up my getting emails or my contacts?
    Thanks, cb

Messenger has nothing to do with email. So it doesn't affect you.

I've read some people who already upgraded had problems with their contacts. I don't know what they were trying to do.

Should I or can I uninstall Messenger. I don't see it in Control Panel, Uninstall - but I see it in my Start, All Programs.
