After Windows update Skype and Windows Desktop Gadgets no longer run.

I recently did an unusually long Windows update that took about an hour in total, and once my computer was running again, Windows gadgets said "Windows Desktop Gadgets has stopped working" and then I tried to open Skype which also said "Skype has stopped working". I tried updating Java, a second Windows update, uninstalling and reinstalling Skype, advanced uninstalling Skype and reinstalling, but nothing I'm doing seems to be having any effect. I'm completely out of ideas, and was hoping someone could help me to solve this?

Bump. This is at 100 views with no one offering any advice. I'm really stuck here, I've exhausted everything that I know how to do to fix faulty computers. I would really appreciate any advice. Thank you in advance.

If no one knows how I can fix this, does anyone know of any where that I should start looking to find out how to? No one seems to want to help me...

Do you have a restore point from before the Windows update that caused the problem?
If so, you can try doing a System Restore.

No, because I tried after reinstalling, doing another windows update, updating java, etc. and now it won't let me restore to before that.

From Windows Update History you could try uninstalling the updates that started the problems.
Make sure you have a Restore Point before uninstalling, or better yet create a System Backup Image.

Hi Stuart, I have been experiencing the same problem, and I always do system restore to a specific point in the past. What's frustrating is that this has been a problem since March and still no specific solution except to restore to the past...

Do you now have other workaround to this that will allow me to have System Updates and make Skype and gadgets to work at the same time?
