64-bit program installs as 32-bit version in W7 64-bit

I have downloaded and installed a panorama stitching program - Panorama Factory - as a 64-bit installer. On the PF Factory website it correctly identified my W7 as 64-bit and downloaded that installer version.

However it has actually installed as the 32-bit version that does run as such (confirmed in Task Manager).

I'm awaiting a response from Panorama Factory but, meanwhile, any thoughts here on why it has done this?

The website did not do that for me. I had to make the choice and click on either the 64bit or the 32bit. The downloaded installer filename clearly states x64.

Clicking on "download" downloaded pfactory_setup_x64.exe

Is that the filename you had? If it is I can't think why your and mine behave differently.

When I run it it says it will install in C:\Program Files (x86)\Smoky City Design\The Panorama Factory V5 which did seem odd.

Is there any setting in Windows itself that might have caused this? I've installed other 64-bit apps with no problems.

I will confirm the x64 installer defaults to Program files (x86). No desktop icon shortcut was created when I changed the default install location. To run the program, I had to dive into the install location where I found two executables, one for x86 and one for x64, the latter slightly larger in size. Running each one separately garners a splash screen displaying the version being used. The install location contains both versions of the .dll files needed.

Upshot? Installer was written poorly to represent a dual-version program package.

Found that out last night too! 64-bit version runs from (x64).

Development of Panorama Factory (which I've used for years) seems to have stopped. Anything better out there nowadays?
