But AppData itself DOES appear in the start menu searchs. What doesn't shows up are its contents, aparently. The only thing that AppData has is the "hidden" file attribute, that can be applied to anything you like. But it doesn't prevents anyone to see it really, since any program can show hidden files. It's changes with right click => properties => tick "hidden".

Why not simply leave it under your "users" folder somewhere? That way, the default Windows permissions will prevent anyone but you to access it, as long as each person uses a different account and they're NOT administrators.

If you like to try third party programs, I think TrueCrypt is good for the task. It can create an encrypted file on you HD and mount it as a drive, password protected. So you throw all your files there and dismount the volume afterwards, anyone wantintg to see them will need the password.

Welcome to Seven Forums mu695. Search %appdata% and you will find the Roaming folder. AppData may be a protected operating system file.

We don't know all that you have tried, so you may get suggestions you already tried. You say you removed it from the index, but by which method? If you choose not to index it, it should not show in start menu searches. Did you right click the folder> Properties> General tab> Attributes> Advanced> Uncheck Allow files in this folder to have contents indexed in addition to file properties> OK ?

I'm assuming you removed the folder from being included (Step 5)

Index Locations - Add or Remove

If so, did you rebuild the index after?

    Index - Rebuild

I know you just want to know why AppData is excluded from the search, but it really isn't, but there are a few layers of differences that may explain it, that may not be available for you to apply to your folder. A Guy

I would put the folder into another partition away from the system. Then it cannot trigger any search on C:.

I am not 100% sure, but I doubt that hiding the folder will do the trick - stop triggering.
