    Java installation error

I got the JAVA message that I needed to install the latest update. So I tried but the installation failed with this error:

    BrowserLaunchError: 1058

My system is Win7-74 SP1 with all fixes and I got this same error with Chrome an IE10.

None of the suggested fixes I was able to find online helped. Maybe it's time to give up on JAVA.

Try using JavaRa to uninstall Java. It can forcibly deletes files, directories and registry keys which might be preventing either a clean install of Java or updating an existing installation. Download JavaRa from the official download link and don't click on any of the other download buttons that may appear. Also, JavaRa has been updated to version 2.1 so don't let the version 2.0 screenshot confuse you.

Once you've run JavaRa try installing a fresh copy of Java:

Thanks for the tip - I was not aware of JavaRa.

However, it did not help. The first step failed to find a JAVA Uninstaller - probably becuase I had previously used Advanced Uninstaller Pro to remove the failed Java installation - but the seecond step did say it found and removed 7 items.

After that it downloaded the normal Java Installer but this failed (again) with the same problem.

It's possible your computer may have some damaged or corrupt system files that are preventing a clean install of Java. Try running a system file checker scan from an elevated command prompt (option two.) If problems are found, run the scan 3 times and immediately reboot the computer after each scan.

I ran SFC several times with reboots following each. Each time it said it found corrupt files but could not fix them all. After the 4th time I stopped running it & tried installing JAVA again. Same error occurred.

I looked at the CBS.log file and indeed there are about a zillion lines in there that say "failed" for one reason or another. But my system runs A-OK so I'm thinking the "failures" have to do with components I don't have or need.

The c:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre7 directory looks pretty complete, but there is no Java applet in Control Panel.

Confirm the Windows Installer service is started and set to Automatic

    Services - Start or Disable

You can try running this Fix it, and see if it helps you

PS I dumped Java completely myself, and only had on program that needed it, and I quickly found an alternative.

Java update, and also "JAVA" has been down with some issues, they should be up again. But when you tried to install java or update it, it would just fail.

    - It should be up again.
