Why won't Skype update take effect?

Damnist thing, trying to install an update to Skype, but it won't install amd keeps telling me that I need to give it administration permission. But I am the administrator, also I saved the dl'd update and gave it admin rights, but that didn't help. And when looking for the pathway in the alert, there was no Start Menu under Windows??? Maybe you can help.

OK, Dude, Went to your source link and followed everything, but still getting the same error message. I've been having this admin problem with trying to update iTunes, also. BTW, this problem has been going on for a while, as the only Skype I have on the computer is the portable Skype. Before I tried your suggested fix, I renamed the portable folder thinking that I'd get a fresh start...still didn't work???

OK, this time I went all out. Found out how to get to the hidden Administrator log on, and logged on as an Admin (never did that before, btw). Then opened the Skype setup download as an admin, got the same error. Also have done a lot of "taking ownership," to no avail. Have we hit the wall?

Finally got the updated Skype to install. Did it in a rather haphazard manner as I really don't know what I'm doing when I handle permissions. I know this is dangerous, but I'm brave. Anyway, I just took ownership and gave full permissions to the installer and the pathway in the error message...and it worked. Perhaps you could tell me what I did right?

BTW, I m having the same type of problem with installing an iTunes update, but the error message is a little different:

Fooled around with this one also. Just did take ownership on the pathway and the installer and it worked. Again, I have no idea why?
