Windows 7: Are you a mad software installer?

Be aware that installing any additional program will grow your wnsxs folder - even if you uninstall the program later. Maybe you want to check the size of winsxs on your system and verify from time to time. It's intersting.

WinSXS is indeed interesting - Because it lies about the size of the files included in the folder.

As the vast majority of files that show in WinSXS are in fact only junction or re-parse points and not real files the stated size is greatly inflated.

A WinSXS folder that shows many gigabytes of data is in reality a few hundred megabytes.

What is annoying is that Microsoft has not added a shim to explorer to display the real size

Exactly it lists all the software you have and when you use them. It then sends that info across the internet.

This IS spyware and should not be installed. If you are having trouble finding software then ask on the forums, use a search engine or go to download.com

no this is NOT spyware. Spyware is malicious, this isnt. Its just harmless fun.

I think its fairly useless, and creates a huge privacy risk but il say no more as you are all free to install whatever you want.
