The service includes a desktop tracker, which is a small application that runs in the background on a user's computer. The application gathers the information about running software and games, and then publishes the information to their profile at the web site.



How it works

Wakoopa uses a discreet client side tracking software that logs which programs and web applications you use, which in turn is sent to your profile. The client mostly consists of a tray icon but can also inform you of alerts from Wakoopa friends and Wakoopa itself. Wakoopa tracks how long you use each application and can also provide you with software suggestions based on your software usage. There are also profiles for every appliciation listed in Wakoopa's database that are editable using a moderated system to keep the information up to date, it is also used to show the statistics of how long the application and how long the application's been used.

This could be useful to find the most popular software for certain tasks, but I dunno about sending information out, even if it is just software profile and info.

It doesnt send document type information out, only which programs your using. So if your listening to a song in winamp for instance, itl just name winamp as a program youve used.

I have this installed on both of my PC's here is my user profile if anyone is interested.

This totally sounds like spyware. Any app that "logs which programs and web applications you use" and then sends them off is a privacy risk.

IMO if you value your pc you should never install this kind of software.

well the thread is entitled 'are you a mad software installer?'...

no theres no reason to be worried. It only lists the names of the programs and not if you were viewing any pron with them
