A question about a few things, Win7, peer2peer programs etc.

    I have a few questions.

1: In windows 7 is there a way to delay a program you have set to load when windows starts? My steam client likes to load before my internet does, or before it connects forcing steam into offline mode where I then have to relaunch it to get it to connect.

and 2: Know of any good peer2peer programs? Other than sharaza?

in services the start up programs you have are set to automatic start, right clicking on them you can set them to automatic (delayed start) they will still auto boot but not immediately at the start.
do this for steam and hopefully it will do what you need it to.

The advice offered by boohbah would be the cleanest way to accomplish what you want. However, if it doesn't work for you have a look at Startup Delayer | r2 Studios the Standard version is free.

Hmm only thing in services was the steam client updater, thats sadly not the right thing. Thanks though :) for the advice for later things with delaying startup of services etc.

ok, there are start up delayers out there but beware,
last year i had to do a clean install when i ran into a huge issue after uninstalling soluto.

i think i have found you a solution,
there is a .bat file here that you put in your start up folder that will delay steam from starting.
and apparently you can edit the .bat file to what time delay you want/need...

DELAY the automatic launching of steam at startup? :: Hardware and Operating Systems

edit: actually the .bat file that was linked to is now unavailable but at least we have a solution,
now you just need someone with the knowhow to do you a .bat file that will work.

unfortunately i dont have the skills but there are enough skilled folks around the forum that could whip one up ,im sure.
will post a request elsewhere for you.

right , another member here kindly found a page that has the details you need for creating a .bat file with a delay time, you can alter it to suit yourself.

You tried Startup Delayer as suggested by scr some posts above? It does exactly what you ask in 1).
Takes stuff supposed to run at startup (like steam client) and delays it by a specific time or when the PC is idle or whatever depending on your preferences.
