What's the consensus on Adobe Flash Player and Shockwave

I seem to be having problems with Flash Player ... and it just doesn't 'feel' right but I can't quite put my finger on a problem as such (it does tend to stop working).

So I'm wondering what your view of both Flash Player and Shockwave are.

I've personally had no problems with it, as long as, its fully updated it seems to work fine.

Be careful about updating when you're browsing a website, and you get that "update flash player" notification.
I caught some malware doing that. It was an Adobe update mimic.
Only update at the Adobe site.

I do, I've visited one website, which claimed I needed to update my Adobe Flash Player to view their website (despite having the latest version installed), so I just ignored the message and left the website.
