Programs Freezing When "Save As" Windows Appears

Hello, thanks for taking the time to read this and help me out.

Just a few weeks ago I started having this problem that I first noticed with Audacity. Whenever I would record some audio in Audacity and try to export it, the program would crash. I don't even get to name the file. As soon as the Save As window pulls up, the program crashes.

I thought this was just a problem with Audacity but I was working in Sony Vegas as well last night and the program would freeze if I tried to save my project. It froze in the same way, the window pulls up and then it crashes.

These are the only two programs I have this problem with but having them both come up at the same time leads me to believe that it isn't a problem with the programs themselves but instead with my computer.

Please reply soon,
~Hicoga

Have you tried running a sfc/scannow to detect and possibly repair any corrupted system files? We have many excellent tutorials here at the forums written by some very talented people. Heres one to guide you through the scan.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Also.......... 1tb of memory?! Heres a tutorial on how to fill in your system specs for us, quick and easy!

Thanks so much for the reply!
I'm running the scan now so I'll get back to you on the results once it's done and I updated my system specs. Misunderstood that it wasn't asking for storage memory. 1TB of RAM would blow my mind. xD

Ran the program and it said it found a few corrupt files and repaired them. I rebooted the computer and tried again but nothing was fixed.

I had to run the scan in 'cmd' instead of 'command prompt' because command prompt wouldn't open up System32 even when I ran as Administrator. Could that have been a problem?

If you have a Restore point from before this began, it may be the easiest fix. You can see what programs added since the restore point was created will be affected.

System Restore

You can undo the restore point if no fix

System Restore - Undo

If not, we can go forward with suggestions to troubleshoot this hard to track down problem.

Just checked and none of the restore points are before the problem started. The earliest one is 8/7/2013. I tried checking 'Show More Restore Points' but that didn't seem to do anythings.

I'd suggest you try a clean start, and see if the behavior still exists.

Troubleshoot Application Conflicts by Performing a Clean Startup

If not, you can track down what is conflicting. If so, try it in safe mode.

Safe Mode

Alright, I'll be gone the next few days so I will have to wait to try until then.

I booted in safe mode and tried to save a project file in Vegas, same issue. So does that prove it's a problem with Windows?

Generally most non windows programs do not run in Safe mode. It loads a basic group of drivers and services. Since it occurred in safe mode, you can almost assume it is not a 3rd party program causing the issue. When you ran SFC, and it found and corrected problems, did you run it again to see if it found no new errors?
