trying "file associations" crashes explorer
I'm used to changing file associations under Windows XP in "folder options" but every time I attempt to do a file association in Windows 7 I get a message that Windows Explorer has stopped working and then that Explorer is restarting. After this happens everything still runs normally but there's no way to associate file extensions and programs to run them.
I'm new to Windows 7 so this may just be a newbie question.
System is an HP dc5700 running Windows 7 Pro SP1 w/8 Gb of ram and 1Tb HDD.
This was a new, clean installation on a new HDD then used PC Mover to import old programs from XP on another computer. Since then I've done an sfc/scannow (no results) and a repair installation with the same results.
Thanks for any help offered.
