Live Essentials Parental Controls

    Live Essentials Parental Controls

Several years ago I established parental controls for a friend's son's account on her laptop. It was Live Essentials for which I helped her set up an account and controls.

Now her son is old enough that when I connected to clean up the PC today, he asked me to remove the Angry Birds theme. But his mother still wants the Parental Controls.

However when we Log on to his account while we get the sign in box for Live Essentials Parental Controls, the mother doesn't remember the sign in ID. So I dont' even know if they're still in effect. Is there a way to tell?

    Hi Greg,
So this person doesn't know the ID used to initially setup Parental Controls, right?
I'm not sure of all the possible accounts available for a Live ID years ago, but @Hotmail and @msn are likely "usernames".
I've had "Hotmail" accounts for many years and used them for "Live ID" account...
You can try using regedit and search for @hotmail , @msn , etc...
Maybe you'll get lucky and find the forgotten ID.
I just did a regedit search for @hotmail and found some interesting old entries...
I found entries where I used a particular @hotmail account that I used to register some programs I had long ago forgotten about...

If that doesn't help, have you tried logging in with the Mom's Admin account?
Maybe from there you could remove Parental Controls, and then create a new account to re-apply new Parental rules...

Strange but the Admin account shows no evidence of Parental Controls.

It's only when I log into the kid's account that the sign-in box pops up for Parental Controls Live ID.

The Mom cannot remember it, the kid says it doesn't restrict him "much," they seem happy to leave it as is.

I'll search regedit for live and hotmail. Thanks, David.
