what could be stopping my download manager launching???

Hi everyone I was hoping someone might be able to help me with an issue that's had me baffled. iv been using bitcomet for about five years now and I swear by it to everyone..and iv been using the latest version 1.36 for about a month. iv never had a problem ,then all of a sudden it has started to crash just after the toolbars start to load ,being replaced by a box asking if I want to send off a report, I feel like iv tried everything ....it happened 8 days ago so any file that has been downloaded in the last 10 days has been removed (well all the files iv found) , iv tried uninstalling bitcomet then reinstalling it about 5 times now, iv tried a system recovery but couldn't go back further than 2 days, iv ran full antivirus scan with Norton 360 and a full spyware scan with super anti spyware and it was clean just a couple of cookies...so I tried loading windows in safe mode then launching bitcomet and it worked fine which says to me that there's nothing wrong with bitcomet itself but some sort of background program stopping it that must start up with windows 7, only when I start task manager it says no other programs are running..my son has been playing and downloading games and i'm sure that's the problem so they been removed...its got so bad not being able to start up a download manager that I installed a different one (utorrent) but that crashed while launching too so it's not just bitcomet but any download manager ,im using internet explorer 9 and im connected with bt but I don't think their anything to do with the problem... like I say if I leave the computer in safe mode find a torrent then launch bitcomet everything's fine then as soon as u try normally it crashes ....HELP!!! John

Welcome to Seven Forums 05jep83. I have no personal experience with bitcomet, but since it works in Safe mode, try a clean start to see what is conflicting

Hi, also check your Norton firewall Program control settings to see if uTorrent or Bit Comet are blocked, maybe the son has played around. (those are Torrent clients, not download managers. )

Hi I never really knew there was a difference but that might the reason I can use internet download manager and not utorrent or bitcomet, I have followed ur advise nd disabled nortons firewall whilst I launch the application but it still crashes, any other advise or suggestions would be great as im starting to pull me hair out.

Do you have a System restore point from when the program was working correctly? That may be the easiest way, and it can be reversed if no help.

    System Restore

Also, if you haven't already, reinstalling the program is a possibility.

Since torrents can be inherently dangerous, scanning with the Free Malwarebytes and Super Antispyware would also be a good idea. I'd also scan with ADWCleaner.

Malwarebytes : Malwarebytes Anti-Malware removes malware including viruses, spyware, worms and trojans, plus it protects your computer
