Adobe Reader XI PDF Thumbnails: How do I enable previews?

    Folks,

New build going with Adobe XI installed on W7/64 Home Premium.

None of my pdf file shortcuts have thumbnail previews. They all show as generic pdf files with their names beneath them. How do I get their icons to show as previews of the files they represent?

In other builds I had the first page of the pdf as the icon.

Searching, I've found offers for regedits, and software installers to fix this. I thought I'd come here to get the professional responses.

    Any help?

    Thanks,
    Ken

I have not used the Adobe reader for a long time, preferring Sumatra PDF, but this is a long time issue on x64. I know the fix found on this page works according to others

Fixes for 64-bit Adobe Reader preview handler and thumbnails

You should only need the Thumbnail fix. I downloaded and scanned the files with multiple scanners and Virus total

Thanks. I tried his programs and they didn't work.

    Here's an example:

On the right, "B", is the actual PDF file. It has a preview image. Cool.

On the left, "A", is a shortcut to the pdf. It does NOT have a preview image.

Is there any way to get the shortcut to have the same preview image? I'd like "A" to look just like "B", with the addition of the shortcut blue arrow.

Ahhh, sorry, I did not see that you had thumbs working for pdf files, but not for pdf file shortcuts. I had never seen anyone use shortcuts to the actual pdfs. Since I don't have Adobe, and will not install it, I can't experiment for you. See if this page helps, if not, looks like you will need an Adobe reader user to help.

I am experiencing this same problem and was wondering if you were ever able to sort it out.
Did not have this problem with Windows 7 Pro 32 bit, but now have it with Windows 7 Pro 64 bit.
    Thank you.
