    Unchecky -Automatically unchecks unrelated offers

    Unchecks

Unchecky automatically unchecks unrelated offers, both saving you mouse clicks and making it less likely to miss a checkbox of an unwanted offer.

    Warns

Installers often try to sneak additional programs as a natural part of the installation. Unchecky warns you when you try to accept a potentially unwanted offer, which makes it less likely to be accepted accidentally.

    Updates automatically

Install and forget. Unchecky automatically updates whenever a new version is available, so you don't have to worry about running the latest version.
This is a Beta, but if it works as advertised, it would be a welcome addition.

I just saw that in the free software thread too.

More information over at Unchecky protects you from unwanted third-party offers during software installations | Ghacks

"In particular, it will uncheck options and switch to custom installation for you if available. In addition to that, it will also warn you that the software may install potentially unwanted programs on your system, so that you know that you need to be extra careful during setup.

It needs to be noted that while this works well most of the time, it is not something that you put all your faith in. It is very likely that it won't detect all custom installation options with 100% accuracy, and what may weight even more, it cannot make decisions for you that require you to click on buttons."

"If you get an accept or decline screen, it is you who has to make the decision as Unchecky won't do anything... "

"In short, Unchecky does two things: it warns you when program installers include unwanted offers, and it will pick the custom installation option and uncheck boxes for you automatically.

The application itself runs silently as a service on the system. It will come to action whenever you install a software program on your PC."

"Unchecky offers no 100% protection against unwanted software installations. While it covers many, it will let others slip by it so that you still have to check all options manually to make sure that this is not the case.

If you fall pray to these installations often, or know someone who does, you may want to give the program a try to reduce the damage that these installations make"
I can't say much about how well it works as I just installed it. I want to pass this on to my daughter who never reads anything except the "Agree" and "Continue" buttons when installing anything. If nothing else hopefully it will slow her down.

I'll skip this one, a software trying to analyze what I do and make decisions for me, not exactly what I want in my computer, adding more bloatware just to prevent bloatware don't fits.

The solution is really simple, NEVER, EVER download from third party sites, ALWAYS go to the original developer's website and download the OFFICIAL distribution from there, which is the most pure version you can possibly get.

For more experienced users the "never download from 3rd party sites" advice may be logical, but for the less experienced users this is a good application. Remember there are far more "bad sites" out there than there were decade or so ago.....this is especially challenging for those just starting their IT experience.

This software won't necessarily benefit those of us who know to look for advanced methods and such. Even if I had it installed, I'd still have to look to see if it did it's job right, so I figured why bother myself. It's too convenient to say don't use 3rd party sites. Many sites link to 3rd party sites for their downloads. And even legit sites have huge Download now buttons that don't lead to the software you were trying to download. This would be good to install on someones computer you know is always downloading toolbars and other addons. A Guy

I never installed anything to test Unchecky. After being installed for a day Norton threw a detection of a serious threat in the Unchecky program files, inject.dll.

    Suspicious.Cloud.7.F

Apparently it doesn't check itself on installation.

Can you run that inject.dll through this? Be interesting to see the results.
