Windows 7: iTunes compatibility mode problem

"iTunes.exe has been set to run in compatibility mode for an older version of Windows. For best results, turn off compatibility mode for iTunes before you open it. "

However, iTunes is not checked to run in compatibility mode I checked.

right-click the iTunes icon on your desktop>PROPERTIES>COMPATIBILITY (tab)

When I start iTunes it gives me that error. The only thing I have checked is "Run this program as an administrator (right-click icon>properties>compatibility>privilege level) and it when I start it up it still says "would you like to allow the following program to make changes to this computer.

    iTunes Version 9.0.1
(latest version as of this posting date)

    Update:

These "errors" seem to go away one you uncheck the box "Run this program as an Administrator"

The reason I had it checked is because iTunes was having problems syncing my phone. I will create a separate thread for that though.

I had this issue when I set it to run in XP compatibility mode, but once I set it back to default, it was fine. Pain in the butt.

There seems to be an issue syncing with iTunes with Windows 7 and this may not be the best "fix" but it worked for me:

Uninstall iTunes from your Windows 7 machine. Install the latest version of iTunes. Sync your phone and say "yes" when it warns you that "this iphone was synced with a different library would you like to replace it with this library".

Basically if you set up the phone as a "blank" (all data wiped) phone you won't have any trouble. Or if you bought a new phone and want to sync with Windows 7 you shouldn't have any issues.

How did I figure this out? My phone crashed, I put it in DFU mode and did a restore but not a sync, it's like having a brand new phone and VOILA! It works!

Did anyone notice the previous version of iTunes (just before the current one) opened just like the "Welcome to Windows" and Live Messenger menus if listed in the Start menu? When the latest fix installed, it no longer opened like that again.

Try this link from pc world magazine for a fix

This regedit has worked perfectly for me. I have been going crazy trying to resolve the issue and finally I have iTunes starting instantly with no compatibility issue.
