Windows 7: avid media composer-how good is it?

avid media composer-how good is it?

When i was looking at this about 12 months ago it was about $2500 & now i noticed the other day the price has fallen by half.
How good is it? Will it clean up video from a handycam?
Is it an intuitive program to use?
