Spy The Spy - New Release

There's a new free tool available in the fight against spyware.

Universal Spyware and Virus Tracker (Info and download)

What it does.

The Spy The Spy program monitors your Windows directory by default with the option to include subfolders and the ability for the user to specify additional locations to monitor. It watches for any new executable files or .dll's that attempt to run.

Compliments your existing security software.

Allows the user to quarantine selected files or restore from quarantine if required. A list of files that are detected can be saved to a log.

What it doesn't do.

Spy The Spy does not make any decisions for you and it doesn't block any bad files. It just keeps you informed of changes and it's down to the user to decide whether to quarantine a file.

Who might use it?

If you're the type of user that doesn't mind responding to pop up warnings and making informed decisions about changes to your system then this software might suit you.

If you're the type of user who doesn't like pop up warnings and decision making then you might prefer to simply rely on your installed security software to automatically detect bad files.

The SFC option prompts the user to insert a Windows XP CD! It's best to run SFC the usual way.
