Maybe try installing in safe mode with networking or turning UAC off, it shouldn't be the problem though as I have used that installer and the normal live installer and it's worked fine in the past, have you tried a system restart yet?

Hmm...What about background processes? Try checking them to see if anything there can be interfering with it.

    Hello,

one thing you could try is to go into safe mode with networking and run the installer from there. this should bypass anything that is blocking the install

Don't know if this will help, found it online. It's old but could still apply.

    - Download & save the latest WLM version.
    - Update Windows through Windows Update
    - Go to "C:\Program Files\Windows Live" and remove "Messenger" folder (note: replace "C" with your root drive letter)
    - Go to "C:ProgramData" (note: replace "C" with your root drive letter) and delete both Windows Live Installer and WLInstaller if you have any
    - Restart PC
    - Run the installer
I reiterate, this is for Windows Live Messenger. Windows Messenger installation shouldn't be tried on Vista and above as it isn't compatible.

    Hangs up

hm. im having a problem with windows live messenger. my computer hangs up (freezes) whenever i open msn. [wlsetup-custom] (before the login window comes up)
    reinstall it?
    doesnt work.

msn 2009 beta works [wlsetup-web.exe](able to open login window) but doesnt log me in.
it asks me if i want tp update to the latest version of windows:

YES: downloads, but at the end, it says unable to use the installation.
NO: Closes the "update" window, but doesnt do anything.

    advice?

The only advice i can offer is to check MSN's (or even Microsoft's) website for information about what you are downloading. It sounds like incompatability with Windows 7. Also it could be due to the build you are using, 7000 thru to 7048 IMO are full of hardware/software bugs, 7077 is the most stable yet.

I'm using Messenger with no problems at all on build 7077.

    Hope this helps :)

Best thing i've found about the new live downloads is the photo gallery, it let's you preview DVD VOB files without needing to run any player

Handy as i'm always creating DVDs for people (home movies & what not)
