ghost 15 image, having to install win 7 first

    Hi,

I do a ghost copy of my primary hard drive then install a new hard drive as the primary drive.
If I then copy the image over to the new hard drive it will not boot.
The only way I can get this to work is to install win 7 and THEN do an image copy over this installation.

Obviously this is to do with the files win 7 writes at install time and my ghost image isn't writing these files.
is there anyway of cutting out the install step and putting the ghost copy straight on the new disc?

    I thank you,
    Mike

My guess is Ghost isn't backing up and restoring the MBR (Master Boot Record).
I haven't used Ghost in many years, but you could look in your Ghost documentation and see if MBR is an option...

What you can try after restoring an Image and the PC won't boot is run a Startup Repair.
    Startup Repair

Sometimes when I move to a new disk(s), I "rearrange" things and the system won't boot (as expected)...
Running Startup Repair fixes it for me.

Did you use the Copy Drive feature? Did you set the Active, and MBR options? here is your user manual. See section 15

Anyone have a solution for this?
Running Ghost 15 in Dos mode from the boot up cd, there is no "copy disk" option.

As far as your original post, maybe some help here:

From what I read, Ghost 15 is a completely new program Symantec purchased and renamed Ghost. It does indeed not have the copy disk function. Everyone says make an image, then restore the image. A Guy
