    AviSynth Installation Problems

    Hi.

I've been trying to get AviSynth to install so that I can use Staxrip, the re-encoding software app. I'm using Win7 64-bit.

Unfortunately when I install it, it comes up with an error saying "You need Administrator rights to install AviSynth. Could not write to registry HKCR"

Of course, I'm logged in as Admin, I've also disabled UAC and tried right-clicking and installing as admin from the menu.

I posted this on Doom 9's forums and they said it might help to post on here, something to do with Windows 7's permissions. That thread is : Avisynth Installation Problem: Could not write to Registry error - Doom9's Forum

Anyway, if anyone has any ideas, I'd appreciate it, as I'm pulling my hair out over this. Other people using Windows 7 64-bit have got it to work. Why can't I ??

    Thank you!

Which StaxRip version are you installing? I notice in the change log there's an entry about AviSynth plugin failure in 64 bit systems.

    Release Name: StaxRip 1.1.1.2 beta

    Changes:
Fixed bug AviSynth plugins setup failing on 64bit systems
    Updated x264 to version 1179
    Updated mkvtoolnix to version 2.9.7
Updates x264 features reflecting recent x264 chang

I don't know how you are using StaxRip. I've tried it a few times. But if you are mainly going from DVD to AVI with no HiDef then I'd recommend trying AutoGK. Usage is a lot simpler. I do admit though I haven't tried StaxRip in a bit. I could never figure out how to get the audio to be anything other than mp3.

I'm using Staxrip 1.1.1.9 Beta, but Staxrip itself works fine. It's the Avisynth program that won't install. I'm using the latest version of that, but to no avail.

Also, I've had a look at AutoGK, but that uses Avisynth too! No help there I'm afraid.
