Windows 7: AOA DVD Copy 2.8.7

AOA DVD Copy 2.8.7

My wife and I are members of Public Broadcasting and very often purchase documentary DVDs from them. In 2008 I bought an external CD/DVD player and a software called AOA DVD Copy version 2.8.7 to backup our DVDs which are rather pricey. We have used AOA on Windows XP and Vista and everything worked well. Recently I started using the copying software on my Win 7 and we have noticed that the quality of the copies is not as good as it used to be on the previous OSs. I have even tried "compatibility mode" in both XPSP3 and Vista. I wrote three times to the company asking them if there are any updates for d/l and install to make it fully compatible with Win 7 but never heard a word from them.

So this old geezer is writing to this group in the faint hope that someone out there is familiar with this software and could advise me on potential updates (maybe even third party); there is nothing instructive on the AOA DVD Copy website. Our thanks in advance for all opinions, advice, gossip, info, etc.

Try the free and popular ImgBurn CD/DVD burning program.

It will copy DVD's. One issue, the quality of the DVD discs you are using and the apparently old CD/DVD burner (they can deteriorate over time). May be time for a new external USB connected CD/DVD burner (the new ones are less expensive than they were back in the XP days).

Thanks for the info. Will look into it.
I want the copy whole disk to be a single process and if imgbrn does that, then I shall certainly give it a go.

After looking at ImgBurn, again, I don't think it has a disc copy function.

However, CDBurnerXP does. It too is a free program.

I use Nero for all my disc burning, but it is not a free program.

Some other possibilities, you'll have to try them to confirm quality, ryc.

What I like most about AOA DVDcopy is the function that automatically calculates the amount of compression necessary to fit a DVD onto a regular DVD (4.7?????). However, AOA has not been updated since 2008 and my correspondence to the company re. updates has never been answered.

I went to our local Future Shop and checked out their DVD software and not a single one mentions anything about this automatic-compression function. Would anyone know of an alternative (more recent) program - not necessarily free - that carries this automatic function when copying DVDs.

Incidentally, I saw a "commercial" page about Corel DVD Copy 6 Plus. Does anyone know anything about this software? I can only find reference to it on the Corel main website but with hardly any usable info.

Thanks in advance for all advice, opinions, etc.

It's not an all in one, but I think DVD Shrink will do that calculation

dvdshrink.org: FREE Backup Solution for your DVD movies!

Basic Computer Operation Tutorial

Windows DVD Maker also will do the calculation, but it does degrade the image quality accordingly.

How to Burn an Oversized DVD | Chron.com

DVD Flick also has a Target Size setting

DVD Flick Guide

DVDStyler also will auto calculate

DVDStyler - Free DVD Authoring Application

DVDStyler - DVDStyler Guide

I can't vouch for the quality of any of these, you'd have to try em out
