The cost isn't a problem. It's two things:

    1. I've tried some of the new PSP versions and have not been happy with the features.
    and
    2. I'm not inclined to learn a new, or even just revised, program. I think I could edit photos in my sleep with my comfy old PSP9.

xp4ever Just something I noticed from your post #11.

You have McAffe and Avast installed.
It's probably not causing your problem but it will cause other problems.

I do have Avast (it updates daily; gets run every few weeks), but I don't have McAfee (did you see it on one of the screenshots I posted??). It's not on the Programs list, and I don't use it. McAfee (or a trial version, I suppose) came pre-installed on this HP computer. I removed it.

At the very top of the picture from post #11 McAfee
Second from the bottom from post #11 Avast

Look on line for McAfee's removal tool and remove all of McAfee.
That's what I would do if it was my computer.

There still maybe other problems. I never assume that their is only one problem.

Thanks, but I already followed almost all those recommendations (didn't reinstall Windows). I think there may be no resolution to this issue other than upgrading to a more recent version of PaintShop Pro my version was the last one from Jasc, before being purchased by Corel). In that connection, I've downloaded PSP X7, but the installation fails repeatedly (tried all the usual things). A Corel rep in the UK has acknowledged that the exe file has problems with some Windows systems, and she will notify me when there's a patched download available.
