Cannot install or open any applications

Hi,

I got duped into installing AVG PC tune up. After the tune up completed and I rebooted, I cannot open IE or any of my existing applications. I cannot even open the Restore application.

I have done all the work arounds suggested online without any fix. I was able to completed remove AVG tune up. I did the scan and got a log file. It did specify there were some corrupted files that Windows fixed.

After several reboots, I am still not able to open any applications. I tried re-installing an application, but it gave an error stating Class not registered and it just died.

Do I have any other fix I can look into besides wiping out the drive? I would really hate to do that if there is a work around.

Appreciate any help. Log file from scan is attached.
Thanks.

Hasnain

Welcome to Seven Forums yusufali. Try booting to Safe Mode with Command prompt and doing a system restore from there

Boot to Safe Mode with Command Prompt and type (or copy and paste)

rstrui.exe

Enter

Safe Mode

If no help, boot to Safe Mode with Command prompt and run the System File Checker

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Thanks for the reply.

So I am assuming there is no other way to get back the system besides the full restore?

This is not a reinstall, it is a System restore point created before the problem. It just may be the easiest way. Frankly we don't know what damage the program made. If the SR point works, it will set you back to before the problem started, and on you'll go. Your "log" is not a log, but a .htm file that will not work.
