MS SyncToy 2.1x64 Doesn't Recognize Files are Identical

I use SyncToy 2.1 to synchronize files in My Documents between my Win7 Dell laptop and my Win XP Dell desktop. These days, I do most of my work on the laptop and use the desktop as a backup device.

Somehow, a few days ago, the files in My Pictures on the desktop got deleted, so I restored them from a back-up. To reiterate, these were files I had backed up from my laptop to my desktop using SyncToy, then backed up from the desktop to an external hard drive. I then deleted the SyncToy .dat files from My Documents on both computers, and ran SyncToy. Although the picture files on both computers have identical names, dates and sizes, SyncToy wants to copy all the files in My Pictures from the desktop to the laptop.

I copied the files in My Pictures from the laptop to the desktop using Windows Explorer so they would be unquestionably identical, deleted the SyncToy .dat files, and previewed the synchro between the two libraries, and SyncToy still sees the ones on the desktop as newer. In the preview window, it doesn't show any "last modified" date for the picture files on the laptop, though they are identical when you look at the file properties in Windows Explorer, and are detected by Directory Compare (Glenn Alcott Software), which considers all the My Pictures files on both computers identical.

Is there any way I can force SyncToy to recognize that the files are identical, hence the ones on the laptop don't need to be overwritten by the ones on the desktop?

    Thank you,
    Terry

Please upload a copy of SyncToyLog.txt from C:\{User}\AppData\Local\Microsoft\SyncToy\2.0 so we can see what its done. A copy of the .dat may also be useful.

There is no log file, presumably because I previewed the synchronization but didn't actually run it. The latest .dat file is attached, but I had to change the extension to .txt, because .dat isn't one of the valid extensions.

    Thank you,

Renaming the extension - it seems to have corrupted the file. Just zip the .dat file and upload it with the .zip extension.

Since I first posted this, I have uninstalled and re-installed Synctoy, but that didn't fix the problem. I then let Synctoy do what it wanted: to copy all the My Pictures files from the desktop to the laptop (bearing in mind that they are identical, since I had previously copied all the files from the laptop to the desktop). I ran Synctoy again, and it still doesn't recognize the files as identical. Something is broken.

I'm attaching a copy of the latest log file to this message.

    Thank you,
    Terry
