2 iTunes icons

Hi there,

I installed an iTunes update and it told me to restart my computer. I did so, and I got the 2 iTunes icons thing. So I did what is always suggested of (unpinning the closed, pinning the open), but the real iTunes icon (the one that actually functions and opens the program) didn't pin and the other one was still there.

So I tried opening the closed icon, and it said that "iTunes (4)" was not found. Remove?" or something along the lines of that. I hit Yes, but nothing was done.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Are they both shortcuts?

You could have a look at the properties and see were there path goes, do they link to the same program?

No. The one that functions is the real deal. The one that I can't get to go away (the one that won't be removed) is a shortcut.

Can you view the properties of the real one, and tell me the size?

The one that you cant delete try to take ownership of it.

Take Ownership Shortcut
Size: 1.71 KB
Size on disk: 4.00 KB

I'm backing up my iPod to iTunes, and it's more than half done. I'll download the Take ownership thing you sent over when it's done, thanks.

EDIT: Done. I'm going to try the link you sent me with the program that won't open.

And, when I run as admin to open the shortcut, it opens iTunes as the real one (but the shortcut icon still there). It doesn't open and do anything when trying to open regularly.

Okay so I opened properties of the shortcut, and closed out. Now the iTunes icon is replaced with a white square. When trying to open it, I got the "Remove?" thing and I clicked yes. It disappeared.

So, now trying to pin the real deal program to the Taskbar, I get the same "iTunes (4)" shortcut again. I try unpinning the shortcut (which it unpins) and pinning the open one, but then the shortcut comes back.

Thing to notice: In the Start menu, the real deal program is called "iTunes (8)" and on the Start menu it's called just iTunes. But the shortcut that keeps on coming back is always called "iTunes (4)"

Should I still try the Ownership thing for the shortcut?

OK I have the Take Ownership thing in my context menu. The only problem is that I don't know how to use the control on the shortcut. Help?
