Optimizer Pro folder

I have a folder called Optimizer Pro but when I looked in All Programs I did not find an Optimizer Pro program; neither when I looked in Control Panel > Programs and Features, nor in Revo Uninstaller. I renamed the folder 222Optimizer333Pro and restarted the machine. It restarted as always without any problems. What is this Optimizer Pro folder all about? Is it safe to delete? Thanks in advance.

Thanks Maxie. You see, that's the whole point. I have a folder under My Documents called Optimizer Pro which I have renamed, but no Optimizer Pro program appears neither in Revo Uninstaller nor in All Programs, nor in Control Panel > Programs and Features.

If you have Optimizer Pro anywhere on your computer, I would advise running a couple scans for virus/malware. If you have Optimizer Pro, its quite likely you have something else.

Well, I renamed the folder and restarted the laptop with no problems. So the next thing was to delete the folder. I deleted it and it now sits in the Recycle Bin. I restarted the laptop and again with no problems.

The odd thing is that the program per se does not appear anywhere.

I would rum a scan with your Antivirus and Malwarebytes ..

Thanks again!
I have just run a full scan with my AVG and it found no threats. I think that AVG looks for malware besides viruses. If I'm wrong I sure would appreciate pointers as to acquiring malware detection software: where, what, who, etc.

AVG is ok at Virus protection but really viruses are only like a small percentage of the battle nowadays. You need a security suite (as well as some other companion software like Superantispyware) or you need Virus, malware and spyware protection.

I would consider running Malwarebytes as Maxie suggested. The link he provided goes to a nice tutorial made by one of our members (Slartybart). Also, consider running programs like SuperAntiSpyware and maybe Adwcleaner.

If you notice browser hijacks (new toolbars, different home page than normal, etc etc) then you can run something like Junkware Removal Tool. If you get a clean bill of health from the software mentioned above, you are most likely ok.

Registry optimizer
When I used Windows XP I had a utility that would back up and optimize the registry. If my memory serves me correctly, it was called ERUNT. But it doesn't seem to work on Windows 7. Does anyone one know of such a utility that will work on Windows 7? Thanks.
