    One BIG software question!!

I have a fortune invested in software running fine on an XP machine. I just bought a laptop with Win7 installed. I have heard and read of many problems with software not functioning, display problems, and installation problems. Is there a location where software is listed that causes problems and/or what the remedy is. I am tempted to update the XP machine but it is running so increadibly well. I did run the Win7 analyzer and was cautioned that some of my software may not function. It did not recognize all the software on the XP machine. It did not recognize all of my hardware, such as my old reliable HP LaserJet 4P.
I find Win7 highly functional and for all intents and purposes maybe an improvement over XP, maybe not. I bought Office Standard 2007 with the laptop. It installed and works flawlessly. The GUI is certainly different but is it an improvement, I don't see any. Since the days of supplying a printed manual with the software or operating system is a thing of the past, until I can buy a manual or keep the Help screen visible, it is a challenge to do much more than write a letter in Word, create a very basic spreadsheet in Excel, or send and receive E-mail in Outlook. The years I spent becoming proficient in Microsoft programs is mostly of little use in Office 2007.
Do I really want to install Adobe Creative Suite, Premiere, FileMaker, Freehand, Quark, Left for Dead, Crysis and Corel on the off chance they may work as they should. Or should I throw caution to the wind, profess "no guts, no glory" and start installing software with a new restore point after each successful installation, while by my side are my system restore disk.
My other option is to wait a year or so for all the updates, fixes and patches to be available, keep reading forums, magazines and start collecting solutions to potential problems.
So the BIG question is what am I gonna do?

Uninstall every program listed as may not function.
You can later install with WEP or compatible mode.

Better yet, buy a new laptop with 7 and buy new hardware.
