Windows 7: Windows Explorer Not Working

Windows Explorer Not Working

This problem has plagued me since I first bought my computer with Windows Vista x64 Home Premium last December and it plagues me now after my computer has been serviced and had Windows 7 x64 Home Premium clean installed. I don't understand what I do that is causing this problem especially considering that everything I have on this computer (with the exception of Office 2003 Pro) is completely up to date. I also check Microsoft's website to make sure that programs are compatible with my OS and I cannot seem to shake this horribly annoying problem. It was a lot worse with Vista but now when I go to my external hard drive or recycling bin or any other Windows Explorer based app it'll say "Windows Explorer has stopped working: Windows explorer has stopped working and needs to close". Then it will close the window and restart Windows Explorer but even after the restart the problem persists. I just do not understand what causes this problem and although I don't think it's affecting performance it drives me CRAZY. Any help is much appreciated.
