    portableapps .COM vs .CO

I prefer to use portable apps on my PCs sourced from PortableApps.com.
    - makes reinstalling programs on a reinstalled OS and copying settings (files) lot simpler

But today I found another "player" PORTABLEapps.co

    Each web-page is vastly different
Q1: Has any body else used PORTABLEapps.co ?

I am concerned about their authenticity and reputation

Never heard of the .co variant, and it makes me suspicious of it being either a legitimate competitor or just a clone for distributing viruses exploiting the familiar name. Unless you know of someone giving a good reference of it, I would avoid it like the plague and just limit to the .com site, for the sake of safety.

Even then, using the original .com site is a risky business. Downloading programs from third party sites ALWAYS carries a significant risk of them infecting with "who knows what" (download.com beign a pioner in this kind of malware distribution, many others to follow).

My prime recommendation would be to always use the official website of each program. Many offer official portable downloads. Even those who don't, you can create one by installing it into a virtual machine, copying the program files over to your system, then discarding the VM. It's the only safe way to get a reliable program not infected by any third party.

    A little information I found.
I personally would not use .CO

    It comes from Bogotá, Colombia,

I wondered about this but couldn't find any reviews about the site.

What I did find is another site for portable freeware.
The Portable Freeware Collection - Latest entries

From what I've seen on this site there is always a link to the authors website you can download from.
It looks like a person put together a database with portable apps info and links.
See the About page on the site.
