"wireshark" & "cain and able" problem (winpcap?)

hello guys , i tried to install wireshark & cain and able (both softwares to sniff packets from the ethernet or wlan adapter). It automatically installs winpcap but i uninstalled it (as it didnt work.. still it doesnt) and installed it again:

    installed wireshark + winpcap
    installed cain and abel.
    uninstalled winpcap
installed winpcap (latest version) , unchecked "start driver at startup"
    reboot
in /winpcap/ i ran "rpcpad.exe" (which should start the winpcap driver?)

ran wireshark: It can sniff my ethernet adapter but doesnt show the wlan adapter

ran cain and able: it cannot sniff anything + doesnt show wlan adapter.

I think it worked on vista but i´m not 100% sure. Any ideas?

    Thanks

What do you mean by wlan?
Both cain and wireshark work in win 7 as I am running them on 32bit.

    Thanks

okay after another reboot cain can now sniff my ethernet adapter too.

so my problem is: both wireshark & cain dont show up my wireless adapter (wlan adapter). so i cannot sniff packets threw my wlan-connection#

    using win7 x64

i joined this site just to reply to this thread, too many people guess at answers when they have no knowledge

Helper your post is barf the install would not have worked if the download was corrupt, also rapidshare is full of malware and viruses, not a great recommendation, the best place to get cain is oxid.it

zigzag, a wlan is a wireless lan

zakazak, the answer to your question is. your wireless adapter does not work in monitor mode. this is the case for most wireless adapter unless you purchase one that is specifically for sniffing wireless lans. there are some on the market but they tend to be expensive. once you have one of those you can capture wireless packets to your hearts content, just be warned as it is verging on illegal if you try and unencrypt those packets

Lolwut. No, you're wrong there. Wireless LAN - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Do some light reading before you start stating very, very incorrect facts, please.

@OP - select Microsoft, it'll show all the data being passed through each connection you have.
