    Diskeeper and Windows 7 (x64)

    Hello:

I was wondering if anyone is having problems with Diskeeper 2009 and Windows 7 (64-bit)? Even though installation went smoothly, when trying to open Diskeeper I get an error message stating that services may have stopped.

When checking Services, while Diskeeper is marked to start automatically, the services actually is stopped. Starting it again doesn't help: it shows "started" for a few seconds, but then stops again.

I have sent a support request to Diskeeper a few days ago, along with a System Information file, but am still waiting for a response which may take another few to several days. Hence my posting on this forum to see if anyone knows what could be stopping the Diskeeper service or how I could check.

Any advice or guidance would be appreciated.

Diskeeper works fine with Windows 7

I have Diskeeper Professional installed on a Windows 7 32-bit computer and a Windows 7 64-bit computer. It has been running fine, have done a number of defrags, and several boot-time deframentations.

    Hi Ajcutler:

I have another version on a Windows 7 32-bit netbook running perfectly. For some reason, however, it's not working on my desktop. I have run a few more tests since my initial post, and it turns out that whenever I disconnect from the Internet and start the Diskeeper service, it works... until such time that I connect to the Internet again (which, by default, my PC is always connected to). Maybe something has gone wrong with my license -- I've sent an update to Diskeeper yesterday.

    ver 10 vs ver 9

I upgraded to Diskeeper Pro ver 10 on a 5 year old ASUS MB using Windows 7 Home Premium. It caused me no problems except it would not do what it was supposed to. When I would look at the defrag condition, it would report the drive in critical condition. I would do a manual defrag and then it would report the drive in excellent condition. After three days the drive would again be in critical condition. After going back and forth with tech support five times and trying everything they suggested they told me that the condition of the drive was really not critical. They said the files involved were really not affecting the performance of the drive. Yet the condition of the drive as reported by their software is critical. The tech guy also said that the files affected were not being released by the operating system therefore were not available for defragmentation. I then realized they did not have a handle on the problems of version 10. I un-installed the ver 10 and re-installed ver 9 and I am no longer having any problems. My drive remains in excellent condition using ver 9

This is strange, really. After upgrading to the latest version of Diskeeper, I no longer have had a problem and Diskeeper is running smoothly.
