    some programs open very slow

Hi I am testdriving a new Win7 X64 installalling and testing software I discovered that some software is suddenly very slow at startup.

I am used to a 32 bit text editor ( text pad) that normally opens fast but now I can count about 10-15 seconds everytime I try to start the program.
Also when I try to close the program it takes similar time and I see a not responding message in the program name bar. Even if I just opened the program and close it
The program appears in a snap in the task manager.
Also Mediaplayer Classic (MPC) 32 bit takes over 15 seconds to start althoug it apears in the taskamager right after I doubleclick the icon. Closing MPC removes it right the same moment from the screen but it remails in the task manager for some 15 seconds again.
Other programs like: open office, irfanview, Thunderbird and Windows mediaplayer, notepad start normally.

I tried disabling kasperski IS2010 but that did not change anything.
I looked in the system logs but see no entries in the system logs appearing if I start or close these programs.

I already found a fast opening replacement for textpad in Notepad++, but still I want to have all pgms opening normally.
I do not like windows media player and always used MPC.

    Any one got a clue?

    me too!

that's right, some programs are incredibly slow with W7, I use Dreamwaever and the program takes age before opening, same thing with Swish Max, I wrote to the editor but no solution, it takes 45 seconds to get it open! I also use Kaspersky but don't know if the problem come from it

    found a solution

you have KIS 2010 so am I, I had a look at the Kaspersky forum and a guy suggest first to go to the Options tab and untick the self defence, then try the programs that are usually slow. It fixed the problem for me, they are all fast as before. The second step is to go to unisntall programs in windows and click on repair Kaspersky, for some, the problem has been fixed.
the step 3 is to wait for a new patch from Kaspersky

Probably you can try running them in compatibility mode, not sure if it would help. I was in a 32-bit system for almost 10 years now, this is just my 2nd day on a 64-bit system. I guess I have to face it, what I've been doing recently is searching for 64-bit software. I found Photoshop CS4 64-bit so far. I guess we have to move in that direction.

Hi Most of the 32 bit stuff is running OK
    Biggest problem for running are:
    Canoscan LIDE 20 scanner
Logitech webcam ( I could run that wit some old XP driver)
    Wacom serial tablet

I will look to see if the selfdefence option makes a difference.
But I do not like to bring down security options

I tried and ideed the programs start faster and the repair looks promissing .

I reported this behavior to the kasperski helpdesk and I hope the will comeback on this.
It looks like kasperski is sometimes fighting with win7

    me too

This is what I have done too and I saw several posts about this problem, however I fixed it by unticking the self defense option then ticking it again.

IK have no clue what this self defence option is used for.

I tried this before but it only helped for a short time and I have no idea about the risk of leaving it of.

I also experience slow folder browsing now and then I cannot relate that to KIS. It is not always but some times when I browse to a drive I only see some of the folders and the after some time the rest appears. ( I se a building progress bar )

    self defence

    just ask then!
the self defence feature is to protect Kaspersky program to be attacked and stopped by someone or some malicious program.
SO you can stop this service for a short time, and wait for a new patch from Kasperski

    Thanks,

I already asked on the KIS forum but no respons there. So it could be tricky if I leave it switched of:S I will have to be extra careful.
