Instant messenger chat other than Skype

I used to use WIM with Winxp then win 7 for a while then MS decides to change it up with skype. the best feature i like was that you could send your imported wav files like sayings from movies or what not that i created with total recorder. I miss this feature. is there a IM that supports this feature that i use with my family and friends. thanks

I am not sure exactly about the process you are trying to explain, but you might find answers in some multi-compatible chat client, such as Pidgin. It will connect with just about everything including Facebook chat, but sometimes I have had a hard time relaying images to Facebook chat with this client, for example. I think this client is able to share data, but it depends on the platforms being used.

basically i create a wav file off of a movie that is playing i.e. movie quotes and import it into the messenger like the old WIM and im can send it to another person its for fun. im not interested in using FB to chat or lync it to. I really want the old IM back so i can send wav files to my family.

I never used WIM, but I think I know what you are talking about. The application Pidgin is an instant messaging application that has the ability to connect to many platforms. Therefore you could set up your accounts (e.g. yahoo, google, etc..) and have all of your contacts for all platforms in one window. When your family member is using lets say Windows Live account, they will be using what every messenger they use, and you will be using Pidgin. Pidgin is a lot like previous messengers, it simply has cross platform connectivity capabilities so it can connect to Yahoo, Gmail, Windows Live, Facebook, etc. It is the swiss army knife of messengers so to say.

I simply made mention to the Facebook connection because so far I have not been able to transfer images or audio files through it, and therefore cannot guarantee that every connection has the ability. I am pretty certain it comes down to what type of messenger is being used on the receiving end, and which platform is being used (Gmail, Yahoo, etc..).
