I have Nero Essentials on as well but it's NeoDVD just the way that's spelled. You can download a trial at Download neoDVD 7.1 Free Trial - neoDVD delivers all the speed and power you expect and adds critical features to make your DVD burning as easy as possible - Softpedia

NeoDVD is an excellent software by Mediastream. Mediostream Products | neoDVD

I'll be looking at a trial of the latest 7.2 to see how that goes since the 64bit won't run the older version that came with a video capture device I had here. The drawback maybe overcome for the 64bit Windows with the latest.

That's a warning in case someone asks why the 4.0 won't work on the 64bit side of life. The good news is that the latest 7.2 version even while a trial until ordered is just the opposite! It burns 10 times faster and works like a champ on the 64bit! Now you have one for the "good software" thread!

I thought it would be a good idea to make a list of programs to avoid because of either compatibility issues or they screw Win7 up.

If you have your own bad experience with a program, please give the program name, website and synopsis of experience.

Quicksys RegDefrag - Defrag, Optimize and Compact Windows Registry
Caused a boot time bsod each time I rebooted and system restore or startup repair couldn't fix the issue. Had to do an upgrade install in the end to fix it.

SUPERAntiSpyware.com | Remove Malware | Remove Spyware - AntiMalware, AntiSpyware, AntiAdware!
    Known to cause bsods.

Advisery: AVG Free - Download Free Antivirus and Antispyware for Windows XP and Vista
Can block letimate items such as installing drivers (not fully installed). Can cause Win7 to crash.

NetLimiter - The Ultimate Bandwidth Shaper
Antivirus software - BitDefender - The future of security now!
Free PC Repair, Protection & Clean Up | Advanced SystemCare Free Computer Scan, Optimizer, Maintenance Advanced System Care
It mess with Windows Registry resulting in numerous System Errors.
(Sounds like its probably best to avoid registry tinkering software in general)

    iTunes.

WinDVD 9 - DVD & Video Playback - buggy and iffy registration with limited number of installs.

I am running Bitdefender 2010 beta 1 and havent experienced a problem yet

    join and download from

    Beta - Beta BitDefender Program

I noticed that too. I have installed the free version, it but I am not game to run the registry cleaner given all the problems I had after running Glary Utilities registry cleaner.

Some-one else on this forum also said don't run the network optimisation in ASC either.

Don, I have tried Kaspersky 8 as beta in 64bit Windows 7. I drained my browser, then I tried to install firefox to see if it would be any faster, yes a lillte faster, but not the way Firefox usually is.
It helped though to turn Kaspersky's firewall off and use Win7 buildin firewall, but that seems odd to me.
Right now I'm on a test with ESET 64bit edition, and it seems to run smooth compared to Kaspersky, and ESET should be as good as Kaspersky when it comes to security, I think.
