a good software for in-office / network text communication?

I'm a dentist. Is there a software anyone could recommend for me to communicate with my office manager instantaneously over the network? (pc to pc) I'd like something that I could type into and that would popup on her screen immediately, and that she could do the same to me.

There's a software called Bluenote used by dentists but it is far more complicated than I need. I just want something cheap or free for simple text messaging that would always be on.

Thanks in advance.

thanks

Thanks for the link.

I'm not wanting to collaborate on documents though. I just want more of an instant message program, ideally a client software program so we won't always have to be logging in to an internet site e.g.
