What happened to my Snipping Tool?

    Hi geeks and gurus.

I'm using Snipping Tool quite a lot. Just late yesterday evening I had to make some snips. This morning Snipping Tool is no more anywhere to find. I mean, the icon in Quick Launch is suddenly a generic one, clicking it gives the error message "Windows can not find ..."

Start Menu > All Programs > Accesories, where you normally find the Snipping Tool, has all the other shortcuts but Snipping Tool is missing.

I would not like to do a system restore or repair installation only for this. Any ideas?

Mostly I'm wondering how could this happen? I am not one of those users deleting files and programs accindentally, normally I am quite careful.

Kari... have you checked in windows/system32 folder?? If it is still there, it should be a simple matter of creating a shortcut and pinning it to the taskbar....

Tews, thanks. I just can not understand why I did not check it in the first place. Of course it was there...

Mystery remains: how did it disappear from the Accesories menu and Quick Launch, all by it self?

What happened to the snippet tool?

I cannot find the snippet tool. I did look under Windows/System 32. I did a "search" on my C-drive and nothing showed. I checked the Microsoft web site and found nothing related to downloading the Snippet Tool.

How do I get this handy tool back?

    Thanks,
    John

Search for SnippingTool.exe in the Start Menu search box & see if it's there.
If not try this SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

    Thanks Jerry,

I did as you suggested - I did a 'search' for the snipping tool.exe and for the SFC / SCANNOW. Both results were zero. I found another link in the discussion and tried the Elevated Command Prompt by going to Start, Accessories, RIGHT-CLICK on the Command Promt and choosing Run as Administrator. After C:\Windows\system32 I typed in snippingtool.exe.

I thought my screen froze up on me - went pail white - then realized the Snipping Tool was activated.

Had to PIN TO TASK BAR. I don't see it anywhere else and if I unpin, it is gone and I then run in the Run Command -snippingtool.exe - and it comes back.

Wasn't the snipping tool under the Accessories originally?

Not sure if this solved the total problem, but at least it is a quick way of getting the snipping tool back in use. I hope this may help some others along the way.

Well it's good to hear you got it going and yes it was originally under Accessories I don't understand where it went, other than doing a Repair Install Repair Install or of Fresh Install I am at a loss.
Here is a nice little screenshot tool I use it all the time and you can put it in your startup folder and it will start with Windows Download Shotty 2.0.2 Free - Tiny but impressive screenshot utility - Softpedia
