    MS SQL server 2005 3.0.000

Both of our Win 7 desktop computers (stats for mine are shown, but the other is very similar) came with Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition [ENU] version 3.1.000 installed. The program has never updated via Windows Update, and I don't believe we've ever had any use for it. This morning, however, Secunia PSI on each of the desktops showed an update to the 2016 program was needed. A little research showed our old version was at EOL for support, but I'm wondering if we may simply ignore this and leave all as is, or should we update, or even remove the 3.1.0000. We do not use any database programs, nor is there any C+ coding done. My personal inclination is to just leave the program installed, but I don't know if it presents any security risk.

    Thank you for any guidance!

Edit: version number in subject should also show 3.1.000

With no response, I will mark this closed. I will leave all as is.

    Gini,

Sorry I didn't get a chance to respond yesterday like I was planning...

Software sometimes uses SQL Server for data processing, retention, etc. An older program might use an older SQL version, which might explain the version that you have on your PC.

My advice would be to do exactly as you have done. Not change anything.
