Uber - No I have not formatted the ipod. do you think i need to do that? i would lose all my data though right? as of right now i do not have my ipod backed up to a library anywhere.

green - I d/l from the same place. did you select the 64 bit option? and did you just let it d/l automatically to the programs folder? i noticed in windows 7 there are 2 programs files folders (one called programs and the other is programs x86) itunes installed files to both of these. also is your mobile apple device driver 6.0.9999.45? i researched this online and it seems to be a 32bit driver, but if it works for you then...??? im curious which folder itunes installed yours in?

    thanks guys.

i downloaded the 64 bit version. it installed in Program Files and Program Files(x86). iTunes actually runs as a 32 bit app though, I think it's just 64 bit compatible

I couldn't find the mobile apple device driver version, just teh driver under disk drives

Did you try restarting the apple mobile device service? Check this

I know you SHOULDN'T format it within windows, because it erases all the ipod firmware too.

Is it possible that I need to update my ipod firmware??? I havent ever done anything like that over the years (still the original version 1.0.2). Could this be the problem & would an update wipe my ipod out???

    thanks

LOL, tbh, i haven't done an update in a while either, i dunno if it clears everything, i think it does tho, so do a backup, and see if a firmware update will sort you out.

You are missing the usb driver "APPLE MOBILE DEVICE" all windows sees is a disk drive!

iTunes works just fine with my ipod though.

I used the default install and then uninstalled the bonjour service.
