Obtaining Software Of A File Extension ?

    Hello,

Have a quite old program that ran on previous PC which used XP.
Would like to get it going again, if possible

Tried all the compatibility screens and wizaards, and it seems like one problem "might" be that W7 can't handle one of the program file xtensions called: .INS

I did a Google, but all that seems to come up are a multitude of sites that want to sell Registry scans, etc.

Is there a place anyone can recommend where I can obtain the extension inexpensively or free, to install ?

And, if i can get it, what do i do with it ?
Where do i place it, etc. ?

    Much thanks as always,
    Bob

    Hello Bob,

The file extension in itself should not cause a program to not run on win7.

I can find 12 references to programs that have used the .INS filetype

    Alphabetic File Extension List

what is the actual program you are trying to install - if it was designed for XP then unless the program deals with system level access or is specifically written to only work on XP one of the compatibility modes should work.

another option if you have Professional or Ultimate Win7 is XPmode

One other option is to convert your existing files into a newer format and/or find a program that is win7 ready that can read the files or file conversions
