Installing Programs

When installing programs using a x64 bit operating system, does it matter where I install the program, in the Program Files (x86) folder or the normal Programs Files folder?

Windows 7 Home Premium SP1, 64-bit

Only 32 bit programs should go in the x86 folder, but the installer should know where to put the files.
