    Microsoft Silverlight

I understand that Silverlight is a cross platform development tool. But as someone who develops nothing (at least not anymore), do I need to keep that on my system?. They always shower me with those massive Silverlight updates that seem to do nothing for me.

If anybody uses Silverlight, it would be interesting to know what they do with it.

i'm still not sure exactly what it is - i think of it as a sort of adobe flash alternative - so you can have an interactive/animated online experience.

    some examples

i've personally been trying to learn flash and actionscript recently - i would hate to think that's all been wasted - here's my first real flash page - bear in mind it isn't finished yet, and i'm only a beginner (and i hope the admins don't think i'm advertising...)

I need it for NetFlix streaming...

I've read that it is indeed MicroSoft's answer to Flash...

That might imply that any videos coming from MS will need it to play? I wonder whether anybody else is using it for that.

I've only found one instance of Silverlight so far....How-to videos for Sansa Fuze+

And that made no difference to me because I don't even have that MP3 player. But that made me think that Silverlight must be the MS Flash equivalent.

Just got off the phone with Netflix. Was told that if my TV's are less than one year old, which they aren't, they have the connection device already built in them. If not you have to buy a $60 dollar box that does the conversion.
By doing this you can then order movies on line for your tv's in the house instead of ordering the dvd's.

The bottom line is I am not going out and buy 2 tv's just to watch movies instead of ordering the dvd's.
