Can I still use Vista registration key?

Good afternoon all!

I have now installed Windows 7 and don't evisage myself going back to my previous O/S Vista Pro.

Can I now use my Vista registration on a different PC? I still have the original disk and would like to install on a 2nd PC.

Thanks

Mike

If it's a Retail version (not an OEM version) you should be able to use it and get it activated on a different PC (you may have to contact Microsoft to get it activated). If it's an OEM version that came with a new PC, legally it is only licensed for the PC it was delivered with (same way if it is an OEM version that you purchased and installed - it's only licensed for the PC it was initially installed on - I have that issue as the Vista version I had installed was purchased as a (lower cost) OEM version).

If your Seven is a full version, retail or OEM doesn't matter, it's OK to use your Vista key on another computer.

If your Seven is an upgrade version, you have a moral problem. According to the EULA (End User Licence Agreement) you are entitled to use an upgrade version if you have a valid, licensed and activated copy of an earlier Windows OS. You loose your right to use this earlier licence (XP, Vista) when you activate Seven Upgrade version.

It's up to each and everyone to set up personal moral and ethical boundaries. I think a vast majority would re-use old Vista.
