    Little Advice

    Hi all
Just need a little advice if i may from someone who has hopefully done this lol
I use the 32 bit version 7022 and for the whole im happy with it. That was until the other day i saw the new leak for 64 bit. MMM tempting.
However, now i found out (yes i can be daft and did not realize lol) that my Core2Duo will infact run this.
So my question is this. What is software compatability like. I mainly run Counter strike source ( this is a must ) and a few other programs like AVG and Winavi.
Has anyone any expieriene with these programs. And only having 2 gig of ram in my machine would i notice any improvement over using 32 bit. Or shall i just download the iso for my collection and wait for the RC.

    Many Thanks in advance

    Hello Damoh,

Looking at your system spec you will not gain the main advantage of running the x64 - the ability to address more than 4GB of ram.

That is not of course the only reason for the switch have a look here ...

64-bit: More than just the RAM - Vista Forums

Running only 2GB RAM you may not see any speed advantages but should still be able to run at least as well as x86.

As for the game it is probably best to do a search for the games you play specifically as to performance with x64 plus any known issues.

If you have the space why not multiboot to see if the x64 works for you - it's the only true test as everyone is different in the way they use their system

Punkbuster might give you issues, some games that work fine on the 32bit for some reason punkbuster kicks for one reason or another, I have gotten COD5 to work for me, but others have not.

    Keep that in mind.

    I have the same problem.
I haven't used 64-bit before, and I'm curious to use it. And to try out the new build.
Will it make my notebook preform better? (check my specs)
And will it have a problem with any of my programs? (Shane on Wakoopa)

This is my first 64-bit OS and I'm pretty happy with it. However, you won't notice anything with your specs, if you had 4gigs of ram or more, you would, there are other benefits, however, with your amount of ram I would stick with 32bit, it handles less then 4gigs better then 64bit.

Of course, there is no harm in trying it out!

As for software, check these threads out for helpful advice!
